One of the tenets of early learning is reading. Children learn to recognize word sounds through song, nursery rhymes and speech.
Providing a rich print environment helps children to make connections between words and their matching object. Reading a favorite book consistently helps your child to learn how to recognize whole words. It's important to teach your child how to sound out words as they develop early reading skills.
There are lots of of fun ideas to make grasping new words enjoyable. Labeling commonly used objects around the house gives a real world experience that engages children to take the lead in their learning. It also serves as a great tool when introducing another language.
Playing matching object games with word & image flashcards reinforces their word recognition so that by the time they begin to read simple books for themselves, many of the words will be automatically known.
Phonics, syllabication (clapping out syllables in a word) and phonemic awareness are all tools that enable children to quickly master language skills.
One of the reading programs that I have researched and has demonstrated effectiveness is the Children Learning Reading program.
It is a fun and effective learning tool that children easily take an interest in and that aids parents in providing the support necessary to foster reading skills.
